Lynn Iliff Onstot
Public Information Officer, City of Joplin

Lynn Iliff Onstot has nearly 30 years’ experience in the communications field. She had been with the City eight years as the public information officer prior to the disaster in May 2011.

As lead communicator for the disaster, she looked to other city staff and communicators from other cities and regional organizations to assist with the many Public Information tasks and media relations responsibilities facing Joplin. This team approach supported the immediate communication needs surrounding the disaster and provided a resource for later inquiries that developed during the recovery work through today.

Lynn has served as the city of Joplin public information officer for 13 years. Prior to this position, she served in the marketing and public relations field in both the healthcare and tourism industries.

She is originally from the St. Louis area, but settled in Joplin after graduating from Missouri Southern State University. As a college student, she recognized Joplin as a “big ‘small town,’” and witnessed this reality as her community joined together in helping each other after the storm.
